Kelly Padrick: The Indie Pop Singer-Songwriter Behind a Long, Independent Career
Kelly Padrick is an American indie pop singer-songwriter who has been writing music since she was five years old. Originally from Providence, Rhode Island, she is now based in New York City, where she has built a long career as an independent artist.
Padrick’s early performances took place in local coffee shops and venues around New England. She later moved to New York City to expand her career, a decision that put her in the same city as the creative partnerships that would go on to shape her music. In 2006, she began working with songwriter Nancy Hess, who became her long-term writing partner.
Musically, Padrick’s work blends pop, folk, new wave, and surf-pop. Over the course of her career, she has released seven full-length albums and four EPs. Her notable albums include her 2005 debut, Haze, followed by Carmine Street (2007), Hello My Love (2010), Soulmate (2011), Dear Love (2014), and It’s Only Me (2016). She has also released EPs including The Brooklyn Hours and Fires.
Padrick’s music has also crossed into television and film. Her song “Pizza and Fairytales” was featured in the Fox Searchlight film Trust the Man, while “Ties That Bind” and “The Brooklyn Hours” were used by ABC in promotional commercials for Desperate Housewives. Her tracks “Believing Makes it So” and “Consciousness” were featured on HBO’s VICE, and her music has also appeared on MTV’s Big Tips Texas.
She has a strong collaborative partnership with filmmaker Patricia Chica, who has directed 11 of Padrick’s music videos, including the award-winning “Heavenly Ride” and “Waiting For This.” Padrick’s newest project is Butterflies, a 2026 EP described as nostalgic, empowering, and emotionally vulnerable. The five-track, country-pop project is produced by Marc Copely.
